When I was younger, I had two really close friends. They were Ken and Kent.

I owe those two a huge favour. If it weren't for them, I wouldn't have learnt two really important words. Two words that would be used daily, almost in every other sentence we speak or write.

When I was younger, my English was terrible and I could hardly speak a whole sentence without going wrong. However, they saved me.

Ken was a really helpful boy. He would volunteer to help whenever a situation arises. He would do it, not matter what!

Kent, on the other hand, was not really helpful. He would be reluctant, if ever willing to help, no matter the circumstances.

After years of mingling with them. I have learnt to match those two important words to their personalities, and it helped. And now my English is relatively fluent.

Jake takes Zack’s outstretched hand and together with Belle, they sprint through the woods as quickly as they could.

‘Zack, I think we’ve lost those mercenaries.’

‘Let’s hope so. Keep going!’

Forests are really cold at night. Cold like ice.

On that night, the insignificant, inglorious flame of the campfire was the only source of warmth in that muddy, unsightly marsh which was in no way mellow at all.

‘Hey, Jake!’

‘Hey, Belle.’

‘Feeling better yet?’

‘A lot better, thanks to Zack!’

‘Yeah, he’s really great isn’t he?’

‘Indeed!’

Jake scans Belle’s (who was grimacing in pain) face and he notices that she wants to say something but is hesitant.

‘I-‘

‘You like him, don’t you?’

‘Eh wha-‘

‘I can tell!’

‘… Really?’

“Haha it’s alright, I won’t scream it out loud!’

‘Thanks!’

‘I’ll tell you something about him!’

‘I’m all ears!’

‘Me and him, we’re brothers! Well we’re not blood related, but it’s as close as it gets. We’re both orphans, you know. Our parents died in an earthquake when we were little and we met soon after at the orphanage. He was the crazy loudmouth who never knew how to keep quiet and I admired him for his tenacity and willpower. The two of us and our friends always got bullied by the bigger boys but he always stood up for us. Even though we never won and got beaten up all the time, he still would stand up in front of them if they come, telling us, ‘Believe in yourselves!’ and ‘Don’t give in to them!’ And those soon became his signature phrase.

There was once when we got trapped under the debris during an earthquake. We thought we would be dead for sure, but Zack didn’t give up. He just kept smiling and laughing, yelling at us, ‘Come on guys, this is nothing, we can get out of this mess! Believe in yourselves!’, ‘It’s just rocks boys! You’re gonna let rocks beat you?’, ‘This is stupid, they thought this would stop us?’, ‘Ah, a new game from the Gods, I like it!’ He always laughed off all his problems. Honestly, if it weren’t for him, perhaps I would have given up and died in that pile of rubble. But thanks to him, I didn’t, I felt that I couldn’t complain if he put it that way, and I persisted. We persevered and we soon got out of the mess, alive and well.

I always needed to rely on him… And this time too. I’m really pathetic eh?’

‘No you’re not!’

‘He… Makes the impossible possible. He makes things happen.

He’s… The best big brother I’ll ever have…

A pause.

‘Hey I think I’ll go get some rest now.’

‘Don’t get upset! And thanks for the story, Jake! Good night!’

Belle treads carefully on the muddy forest floor, trying to not wake Zack up. She finally gets to the tree that Zack was leaning against, but unfortunately, being the utter klutz that she is to increase her kawaii rating, she couldn't help but spoil the moment by stepping on a twig.

‘Oh, Belle, not resting yet?’

‘Sorry, I woke you up!’

‘It’s fine! Is something up?’

‘Oh no- No, nothing! Jake just told me about your childhood just now!’

‘Jake did? Hahaha, well what’d he tell you?’

‘About the orphanage. And the earthquake!’

‘Oh, he sure likes to boast!’

‘What?’

‘Hahaha, I’ve never people this, but the kids never really got along with me you know? They thought I was a noisy eyesore, that I’m cocky and that I’m arrogant. Well, maybe I am, but that’s not the point. The point is, they disliked me! And so I thought that if I stood up for them, and got beaten up for them, they might like me a little more. It didn’t work. They’d just leave me be and let the older boys beat me. But Jake, that popular kid, he would fight with me, and so I fought for him.

I wasn’t the only one though. He got along really well with the rest of the kids, and they couldn’t bear seeing him get beaten. And everything started from there. Even after being bruised and battered, we little boys could still find joy and laugh at what happened then, and all of us became close friends soon after.

And that’s the true story of the orphanage.’

‘Oh…’

‘The earthquake! It was terrifying. I have never been more afraid and death had never been more real. All I could do to prevent myself from breaking down was to laugh at the very source of the terror, hoping that it would suppress my fears.

I put on a brave front and pretended to not be intimidated. But that was all I could do. It was Jake again, who got me out of trouble. Silently, using some tools we found, he just kept pressing on without complaining, breaking away boulder and rock after boulder and rock. His silent determination inspired us, and we never gave up until the end. And, we got out of that mess, alive and well.

So you see, I’ve always relied on him when trouble came calling.

I was so glad that I could help him escape this time.

He’s… The best little brother I’ll ever have.’

‘I see…’

‘Is something wrong?’

‘No, but he said he was the one that always relied on you!’

‘Gah, that liar! I was the one that always relied on his abilities. All I ever did was be a cheerleader and go ‘Believe in yourself!’ All I ever did was trust in him. He was the one that made the invisible visible and the unseen seen. He made things happen.’

‘Heh, you two really are brothers! You say the same things!’

‘Huh? I can’t imagine him saying ‘Believe in yourself!’ in a girly voice, Cheerleader style!’

‘Mmmmm, who knows! He could have!’

‘HE REALLY DID THAT?’

‘No I’m not telling you!’

‘I’m not letting you get away! Tell me!’

‘No way!’

‘AHA! You’re cornered now!’

Preference.

Sometimes we don't really start out with a preference. But sometimes, when others suggest we do have a preference, we deceive ourselves into thinking we really have that preference. We become overtly aware of the said 'preferable traits' and end up thinking we really prefer them. We go on thinking with that preference and inadvertedly prefer the said characteristics. But some time on, the interest gradually withers. Slowly, surely. We finally realise, 'Hey not really, I do like other things in equal measure as well!'

And really? Some people just simply cannot live without preference.

Some people, they just feel more comfortable knowing they prefer something over another.

I am going to update this blog now for the sake of updating.

It seems I am very outdated as everyone is telling me "YOU ARE OUTDATED AND HAVE TO UPDATE!" So I have come to the conclusion that I probably am very very outdated and not up to date at all and have to update immediately. So here's the update.

Updating is no easy task. I have to update for long hours before the update is actually up to date. It's no wonder that updating has become a rare phenomenon nowadays as updating is such a chore and I'd rather not update if given the choice to update, or not to update. But nevertheless, I have chosen to update this blog to make it up to date and keep it updated.

You may have noticed that I have not updated this blog for quite some time and indeed, it is quite out of date and not updated to the latest happenings. Hence, I have been forced by my legion of fans (cheers mates!) to update my blog to keep it extremely up to date to the major happenings in this digital world where updates have to occur every passing moment regardless of everything.

In short, updates are essential.

It doesn't have to be conscious, or on purpose. It could be subconsciously, unknowingly or accidentally. But nonetheless, it's a lie. Nothing malignant, nothing vile, nothing mischievous. But still a lie.

Things like...

'Hey I'll be right back.' And you disappear.

'Mmh, I'll talk to you later.' Uhh really?

'Ugh, I don't know how to do this.' Or are you just lazy?

'Ah, I have to go to the toilet.' Or are you just wandering around and loitering?

'I have to go now!' Or are you just tired of talking?

'Sorry, I have to sleep, I'm not feeling well.' Or are you just not focused?

'I told you yesterday, remember? Or maybe something got mixed up.' Oh really?

'I'm fine, really.' Are you?

'I'm feeling really really good!' Are you?

'I haven't been well.' Or are you seeking attention?

'It's too unfair.' Or are you playing victim?

'I can't, I'm busy.' Or do you just not want to?

Many times, we just get caught up in situations like this. We want to get out of situations, and be elegant doing so, instead of running clumsily for it.

I'm certainly not blameless myself. But really sometimes I get a little annoyed when people say things I know they are unlikely to do.

Everybody wants to be nice and it's troublesome. We hate to be mean and we have to veil our meanness by saying something nice. To achieve that, we inevitably lie. Even without malice.

Every time my mind stumbles across and remembers that dreamy August night, I can't help but giggle by myself and laugh at the silliness of that kid. :D

I confess. In the past, I have always tried to be cool in every action I take. But, I'm tired of it already. From now on, I'll try to be warm. Cool people are almost ubiquitous nowadays; warm people are a rare breed. Everyone can be cool, but not everyone can be warm.

The only truly warm people I know of are Natalie Khoo and Andrew Fong. Those people that never cease to smile and have a cheerful aura and give a warm "Hello" every time you meet.... Fine, in the case of Nat, it's more like... "HELLOOOOO WHATS UPPPPPP!" But you get my drift. Yeah, those are really nice people and I want to be like them.

By my own admission, I have difficulty caring enough about other people when my own sense of justice kicks in. It's hard and rather troublesome for me. I don't like faulting and berating my friends, yet I can't stand faulting the just. But I won't stop trying to strike a right balance. Must. Be. Warm!

You know, when I look at the result sheets, it is usually with more apathy than excitement, pride, or guilt.

When I do well, I just give a shrug and continue on with my business.

But more often than not, I do not do too well. Gone are the days where my name sits somewhere near the top of the list. Nowadays, it always lurks at the tail-end of the list.

However, I always take heart from the fact that I know I am nowhere near doing my best yet. I am capable of more and I can do better. A lot better.

But that's not where the problem lies, is it?

From jogging today:

-I am still crazy exhausted from yesterday night's vigorous and intense activity that left me sweating profusely all over and panting furiously. There were probably some bruises and scratches from a lot of physical engagement between our bodies. We constantly tried to get behind each other and kept going non-stop for two hours and it was really sapping. We touched the ball many many times and tried to keep it under control. We took a shot multiple times throughout the course and even though more often than not we miss the target, but we kept on going strong, not giving up until we finally hit the right spot. And oh my, what joy it brought us. We went into overdrive and shouted- no, screamed loudly with elation in unison. And then we resumed our activity once more, and then again, until our energy reserves were sucked away by the end and we could do nothing but lie down and pant with glee, but it was a happy night. I woke up the next day feeling a little weaker than I've been for a while.

...What? It's just futsal you horny bastards.

-Taman Tun park is ridiculously packed. I haven't been here during the evenings in a while and WHAT THE HECK, HAS THIS PLACE DEVELOPED INTO SOME TAMAN NEGARA NOWADAYS?

-The soya bean vendor is still good.

-Don't ever eat curry puffs before jogging if you value your life. Ever!

-I realized why I tire extremely fast while jogging sometimes. I tend to treat the 2000m run like a 200m sprint. *gallop gallop gallop* *ahhh very tired ahhh!*

-Uncle Jit hasn't changed.

-Decapitated cow heads aren't half as disgusting as I imagined, but still disgusting.

My dad always says that it is a con, a fraud, a big lie, and I shouldn't give in to sympathy and get scammed.

But to be honest I've never heeded his comments. Personally, I usually give a little when I see them. If it helps them, it makes me a good deal happier. If it doesn't, and it's only a con, a ringgit or two is hardly anything I cannot afford to part with.

How much of a donkey do you need to be to sleep at 9 30 and yet feel ridiculously crap for the whole day? Evidently, however much that is, I am one!

Just how much sleep is 'enough sleep'?

I slept at 9 30 yesterday and I still feel like a fat swine that had it's eyelids' pinned open for 4314.2213 hours. Please halp~

I am very grateful and probably more than just a little fortunate to have made it to school with just this 'stigmata' wound and an ugly bruise on my knee.

Hmmm, had I been cycling faster or had there been an onrushing car I think I would have been hospitalized or even be afflicted with (I'm sitting on a wooden chair as I write this) fatal wounds.

Have just one point to make today:

Accidents can happen anywhere, anytime and completely out of the blue. They can loom around silently and pounce when you least expect. So while you're at it, be cautious at all times. Fun is all good, but if the danger lights start flashing, please be careful. Never forget the presence of danger in every situation. Safety comes first!

Be grateful in every circumstance, and not for every circumstance.

Even though I was the one that was supposed to help and give advice, I (perhaps accidentally) ended up talking a lot of sense that could be applied even to myself.

Yet the contrary is also true.
We're not really as weak as we sometimes think we are.

However content we are with running away, it just isn't the way to solve problems.

A month ago. I got into an accident involving vehicles. I broke the motorcycle's 'windshield' and had to fork out RM50, probably not enough, but that's all I had. At least nobody was injured.

A month from then, which is now. My dad got into an accident, this time involving a lorry. The lorry dented my father's car's bonnet badly, and he paid RM200, hardly enough, but that's all he had. At least nobody was injured.

What goes around comes around eh?

I had a dream last night.

No, not in relation to my previous post's 'I Have A Dream.'

I dreamt last night.

In my dream, I set off to kill five people.

Yes, you read that right, 'kill.'

Five people that I knew or am acquainted to in some way, and not just any strangers who I had no relation to.

Why did I do that!? You ask.

Let's just say I was threatened with the lives of my five family members. My dad, my mum, my two sisters and my brother, and I had to kill five to save five.

The villain offered a trade where I'm supposed to pick off his five targets for him in exchange for the safety of my family. Sadly the five targets are all friends/relatives of friends.

Suffice to say, I woke up before I actually killed anyone.

But if it were real...

What would you have done if you were me?

Played cards after tuition with Jung, Koks and Cong. THIS JUNG HACKED THE GAME, I SWEAR! HE WON MOST OF THE GAMES AND HAD MOST OF THE GOOD CARDS MOST OF THE TIME!

Oh wait, how do you hack a card game?

Then I moved on to the main event of the day: Church.

Went to the taxi stand in OU and had to wait for a Jouee to appear. So in the meantime, Koks and I went to the TV shop and I played the PS3.

.... I got beaten by the computer. (While a kid was killing them for fun. Ah, my reputation tarnished.)

Then we went on the taxi with an Indon driver who spoke very Indonized Bahasa Melayu.

Church was more enjoyable than usual. Mainly because my friends kept up with my energetic pace most of the time lol.

Ashley in particular was at her bimbo best to go through the motions with me. We did it all - headbangs, jumps, slow-mo jumps, lyrics-modification, jokes, random shouts of each others names, pretend we are newcomers, talked with headhunters (WHAT?) and speaking in China Accents + English Accents. She was my 'make-sure-we-both-won't-fall-asleep-during-sermon' partner today. AND WE SUCCEEDED! (Whereas Jouee was 'fallen' several times. Cough cough.)

OH THE HILARITY!

Yeah, then we watched Up!. Was not bad. But I thought it's a tad overrated. And certainly non-logical. But we, and any sane man/woman shouldn't expect it to be realistically plausible anyway. It's animation and fiction after all.

As a wise man used to say:

"Every time you apply real-life physics into the world of animation, God kills a kitten."
